Chris refers to the gaming system they're playing, OSRIC - Old School Reference & Index Compilation. This was a happy coincidence I found while researching for this comic.

I want to try to keep all of King Osric's lines for this comic, since I think Max Von Sydow did a tremendous job with the character. Yes, he overacts, but the role calls for it. Also, according to the Conan Unchained documentary, he apparently loves this kind of role. I even kept his laughs.

Yes, this also means that Valeria's comment regarding exposition is foreshadowing.

Transcript:

Scene: Valeria and Conan walk into a throne room, accompanied by a large group of guards and an aid to the king.

Valeria:Where are you taking us?

Aid (DM):To see my liege, King Osric. He desires an audience from you.

Conan:You stole his name from the gaming system? Can't you come up with anything original?

Valeria:At least we don't have to listen to a bunch of exposition.

Aid (DM):These are the thieves you requested, sire.

Conan:I'm not a thief, and she's the murderer!

King Osric (DM):I thought there were three of them.

Valeria:Our companion - he died in the gardens. Lions ate him.

King Osric (DM):Lions ate him?

Subotai:Hey, guys. Sorry I'm late. What'd I miss?

King Osric (DM):The lions ate him!

Subotai:I'm late twenty minutes, and you're already feeding me to the lions? What kind of adventuring party is this?

King Osric (DM):Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Hu hu hu hu!
